Trade chiefs from countries involved in Pacific free trade talks will meet on Nov. 8 in Beijing on the margin of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, the Japanese minister in charge of the negotiations said Wednesday.
The fresh ministerial gathering for the so-called Trans-Pacific Partnership talks is being scheduled to coincide with an APEC ministerial meeting on Nov. 7-8 and a following summit on Nov. 10-11 in the Chinese capital.
Japanese TPP minister Akira Amari, however, did not mention whether a TPP leaders’ meeting will also take place.
Amari told a meeting of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party that a bilateral agreement between Tokyo and Washington, seen as vital to advance the broad 12-country negotiations, is not yet in sight.
The 21-member APEC includes all 12 negotiating members of the TPP — Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States and Vietnam.
