Japanese Business Mission To Meet Chinese Vice Premier

A mission from the Japan-China Economic Association is expected to hold a meeting with Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang on Wednesday, sources told Jiji Press on Monday.

The association, made up of Japanese business leaders, had hoped to realize a meeting between members of the mission, including Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) Chairman Sadayuki Sakakibara, and Chinese President Xi Jinping or Premier Li Keqiang.

But such a meeting seems difficult, the sources said.

Wang met with a mission from the Japanese association, chaired by Toyota Motor Corp. Honorary Chairman Fujio Cho, in November last year.

Recently, overtures have emerged from both Japan and China two years after the bilateral relationship deteriorated due to Japan’s nationalization of some of the Senkaku Islands in September 2012, an action that angered China, which also claims the East China Sea islands.

But China’s decision not to accept the mission’s meeting with either of its top two leaders seems to show the country’s approach toward Japan is still tough, the sources said.Speech
