The Finance Ministry said Tuesday that the finance ministers of Japan and South Korea will hold talks in Washington on Friday afternoon, their first meeting since November 2012.
Finance Minister Taro Aso will meet with his South Korean counterpart, Choi Kyung Hwan, on the sidelines of a meeting of finance ministers and central bank chiefs from the Group of 20 advanced and emerging economies, which will start in the U.S. capital on Thursday, the ministry said.
Aso and Choi are expected to discuss not only the economic situation in their countries but also the Chiang Mai Initiative multilateral currency swap arrangement and other financial cooperation in Asia.
Japan and South Korea have failed to hold a meeting between their finance ministers due to disputes over territorial and other issues, but the meeting’s resumption was realized at the request of Seoul.
