Asian Equities Start Lower

Asian stocks are headed for modest losses on Friday following the European Central Bank meeting and as traders await the U.S. jobs report.

Australia’s benchmark S&P ASX 200 dipped 0.1 percent in early trade, moving off a one-week closing high hit on Thursday, while the Australian dollar remained below 84 U.S. cents.

Japan’s benchmark index could retreat from seven-and-a-half year highs, with futures in Osaka 0.2 percent lower at 17,840 and Chicago futures down 0.3 percent at 17,865. Both are lower than where the Nikkei ended on Thursday.
